Treat Yourself Tuesday 6

My days have mostly been filled with working at my new job! So I thought today I would focus on a few treats from the past week 🙂

Advocare Mocha Shake

If I needed to I could totally live on liquids. I’d rather drink a meal in the morning. These mocha meal replacement shakes are so good! I simply mix water, 1 frozen banana and the powder packet…. blend it up and enjoy 🙂 I’m going to buy more of these because I love them that much!

Healthy Crackers

I’m not 100% sure if these are Advocare friendly so I waited until the Max phase to buy them. The good news is I looked at the ingredient list and I recognize everything that was listed. I think they are almost Advocare friendly. I eat them with hummus, which is Advocare friendly!! I never really loved hummus but these crackers make me love hummus!!

Low Key Weekend

Scott and I had ZERO plans for this past weekend and it was amazing! We (and by we I mean I) got some cleaning done. Scott helped with laundry! We hung out with Scott’s brother, sister in law, niece and nephew. We watched movies. Yay for no plans on the weekend.

Mung Bean Noodles

YAY for some healthy noodles! These noodles are made 100% of mung beans which means there is no flour! They are gluten free but they taste like regular old noodles! I bought them on Amazon and I am so happy I did. I’m making them again today for lunch. I’m going to add olive oil, seasoning and shrimp to the noodles to make a super easy healthy pasta.

Snuggle Time with The Pup

What a little snuggle bug. She weighs about 45-50lbs but she thinks she is a lap dog. If I’m on the couch she is almost always laying on top of me.

So far I have loved the Tangerine and Fruit Punch flavored spark drinks. I ordered more and I can’t wait to try the Mango Strawberry flavor later today!! Love my spark!!!

Well these are a few treats from the past week. The rest of my week will be spent working, cleaning, cooking and working out!

As you all know I went to a bootcamp and brunch last Saturday. It was so much fun and so great to meet such amazing people who share similar interests as I do! Thanks again Lee, Amanda and Mellissa for a fun morning!

A Killer Workout

I love trying new workouts and this is the one that Lee had us do for our bootcamp. I really enjoyed the workout. It kept my attention and I was never bored. I’m definitely going to be doing this workout on my cruise! Hopefully I can remember all the moves 🙂

Chia Seed Yogurt

Mellissa’s Chia seed yogurt is so good!! I topped mine with some of Scott’s grandma’s homemade peach jam, blueberries and Muesli. It was so good! I need quick and simple breakfast items otherwise I won’t eat breakfast. I know…. I’m bad! But if I prep quick already made things then I eat breakfast!!

Pei Wei for Lunch

Did I ever mention that in High School I used to work at Pei Wei. Oh man if you haven’t tried Pei Wei you NEED to!!! My favorite is the Pei Wei Spicy with Fried Rice and of course I LOVE the wontons and spring rolls!!!!! Not at all healthy (although you can get healthier options there!!) but so so good. It was the perfect fuel to power me through an afternoon of studying.

I was Reunited with Yoga Sculpt

I took my first sculpt class back in October. I really loved it but my month of yoga was up. On Tuesday I headed back to Core Power Yoga for my second sculpt class. I am SO happy I went! It was such a good workout! I missed yoga 🙂

Weekend Update 1/12/14

Sorry this is so belated…. Better late then never 🙂

My weekend was very relaxing and fun! 

Friday started out with an 8 hour shift at work. Friday evening I relaxed on the couch, should have been studying but I didn’t. Honestly I did try to study but the website that I use was down for the weekend. What a bummer 🙂

Saturday I woke up and cleaned for a couple hours until my cousin arrived.

Saturday morning I let Maisy try my EnergyBits! She loved them!!!

We hung out at my apartment for a while. She asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding that will be in December 2014! I’m so excited!!! 

Once Scott woke up we headed out to lunch at Acapulco’s. I always forget how good their food is. Love the free chips and salsa. 

After lunch we headed to do some shopping. Scott is always an interesting one to go shopping with 🙂 We dragged him into Charming Charlies!

Saturday evening Scott and I had a date night at Sole Mio Ristorante. It is a newer Italian restaurant in Woodbury and it is amazing!!! I have Marsala Ravioli and it was so good! 

Sunday I woke up and did a little online shopping at Jamberry! Katie started selling Jamberry Nails and I am so excited to get my stuff.

I thought these two colors would be perfect for my cruise! By the way did I ever tell you guys…. Scott and I are going on a cruise the first week of February courtesy of my wonderful parents!!! I can’t wait to try out the nails for my trip. Katie talks about them lots of her blog and it sounds like they are very simple to apply and stay on for a long time! I will let you know how it goes!! I also went grocery shopping sunday. I was planning on hosting a Scentsy party but my scents rep ended up getting sick so I changed my party to an online party! Those are my warmers that I have and I LOVE them!!!!! I keep them on all the time and my place is always smelling amazing!! 

Since my party was cancelled Scott and I ended up heading to Mark and Sarahs!!! I brought my taco dip and sangria that I had made for my party!

We also ordered pizza! Have you ever had gyro pizza? OMG we had it at Mark and Sarahs and it was amazing!!!! Best pizza ever!!! I love gyros!

We also made Nutella turnovers that were so good!!! I added Reese’s in a couple of them! Nom Nom Nom!!!! Who doesn’t love chocolate and peanut butter!!

Monday was filled with lots of studying! I also went to BodyAttack and BodyPump monday evening! When I got home Maisy had so much energy I played tug of war with her FOREVER!!!!

Luckily I was also skyping with my AMAZING friend Cara so time went by fast!!

I have many passions! I love helping others…. hence the whole nursing career 🙂 I also love cooking and trying new recipes. I recently rekindled my love for running and exercise. Lastly my friends, family, Scott and Maisy.

Lastly I do have to add…. and I know Katie will love this: They released the new BodyPump at Xperience this week and I took it tonight. I really loved it!!! It is SUPER intense. I really love the chest track. And OMG the lunges, shoulder and triceps tracks are intense. Let just be honest….. it was all intense.

During my spin class the instructor always asks us to give thanks for our healthy bodies. It truly is a blessing to be able to do what I want to. There are many people out there who have health issues that prevent them from living their lives the way they want to.

I am super motivated by music. If I’m doing a hard workout I just need a few great songs and I will get through it.

15. Happy Days

I am rarely in a bad mood and that is because life is WAY TO SHORT to live it pissed off. I almost always have a smile on my face and I love to make the best of every situation.

Although I don’t love the cold I really enjoy the snow.

Kind of weird to be grateful for but watching my shows is a great way to relax after a stressful or busy day.

Obsessed With Cooked Carrots!

Before I get to the main reason for this post…. a little about this week 🙂

Tuesday was a very exciting day because:

 1. I saw a C-Section during my labor and delivery clinical

and

 2. It was my LAST clinical of nursing school!!!!!

Today I got to experience a really cool simulation at the St. Paul Campus. They have a mannequin that can simulate birth. The mom mannequin actually breathes, have a heart rate, pulse the works! And we actually watched the mom mannequin give birth to a baby mannequin. The baby mannequin cries, turns blue, has a heart rate, lung sounds (crackles), grunts and much more! So very cool!!! I’m so happy I got to experience this simulation. The nurse midwife that did the sim with us was so knowledgable. It was only me and one other student so we really had a personalized experience. I learned so much!

Lastly, before I get to the topic of carrots I have to share about my crazy pup Maisy!!

We got a bunch of snow in the last couple days and Maisy is LOVING it.

She really loves when I kick the snow in the air. She goes crazy and runs around like a maniac.

Now….. for the main topic…. CARROTS

Do any of you have an insane love for a certain veggie? Mine is carrots. I can eat them all the time. Raw or cooked I love them!

Tonight I cooked a pork tenderloin, roasted potatoes and roasted carrots.

I personally think the best part of the meal was the carrots!

Spiced Cooked Carrots

Ingredients:

3 cups Carrots

1/2 tbsp cinnamon

1 tsp ground ginger

1/4 cup orange juice

1 tbsp honey

Directions:

Put all of the above ingredients into a shallow baking dish. Mix together and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes! Cook longer if you don’t like your veggies still with a bite.

I hope you all try this recipe if you like cooked carrots!

Before I get to talking about DietBet a little about this week….

Tuesday evening when I left clinicals I walked outside to some big beautiful snow flakes! I really love the first few snowfalls. Partially because I know it wont stick and also because it is always so pretty.

Maisy really really loves snow. Scott took her outside in the morning and when they came in she whined for about an hour because she just wanted to go back outside. I took her outside and we played fetch in the snow for a long time! She was so tired when we got back inside.

DietBet

DietBet is a website where you can join or start your own game to bet on losing weight. The games are either 4 weeks or 10 weeks. I joined a 4 week game. You’ve got 4 weeks to lose 4% of your starting weight. To begin, everyone puts money into the pot. After four weeks, whoever’s hit their 4% goal is a winner and splits the pot. The bet for my game was $20. No matter what as long as I lose 4% I get my $20 back and hopefully more, it just depends how many people lose 4%. To prevent unhealthy weight loss you cannot lose more then 12% and you cant go below a BMI of 18.5. If anyone would like to join in you still have time!!! The game starts on Friday so go here and sign up!!

My goal is to lose 4-8% in 4 weeks!

Healthy food I’ve been eating in the past couple of days…

I really love this blended greek yogurt…. I have a texture problem with the greek yogurt that doesn’t come pre-blended…. I don’t know why but I like my yogurt super smooth and this blended yogurt is!! I really love the strawberry cheesecake flavor… which of course you can only get at TARGET 🙂

This salad is so good I’ve made it twice and I will be making it again today!!! It has romaine lettuce, strawberries, carrots, yellow pepper, almonds, turkey, bacon bits and poppyseed dressing! So good!!!!

This morning I had this triple protein breakfast bowl. I really wanted to make a breakfast burrito but decided to add extra veggies and get rid of the tortilla 🙂 I included venison bacon (super lean), 2 eggs, broccoli, yellow pepper, red onion, a small sprinkle of cheese and hot sauce. So good!! I will be making this again…. probably tomorrow! I need to buy some egg whites because next time I will do 1 egg and egg whites!

Things are getting better!!

So I am starting to feel much better since last week. Saturday night Scott and I went out for pizza for dinner and then we relaxed. If anyone lives near Woodbury Ronnally’s has amazing pizza!!

Sunday Scott went o his uncle’s farm to help out and I stayed home and canned spaghetti sauce. I can’t wait to make pasta and try out my canned sauce. It smelt so good all day while it was simmering. While it was simmering I watched Fast Five… I haven’t seen the sixth fast and furious movie yet but I cant wait for it to come out on dvd soon so I can buy it. I really love those movies…. may have to do with Paul Walker being in it 🙂

Monday I had my second blood test done to see what my INR is at. I was bummed to hear that it is only at 1.2 😦 I really want it to be between 2-3 so I can stop with the daily injections. It is getting harder and harder to stick myself. I really have a different view point on people who have to give themselves injections all the time. My doctor increased my Coumadin so we will see where my INR is at Wednesday morning. Send good vibes my way please!

Monday evening was the start of Clinicals. I am at Fairview Southdale Hospital and I really love it. I am on a cardiac unit which is very interesting. Monday was an orientation day for us.

This morning I woke up to a very cuddly puppy.

Once we were done snuggling it was breakfast time. I treated myself to a yummy pumpkin waffle with Nutella, Raspberries and sugar free syrup! So delicious.

After breakfast I headed over to Don’s house to pick some more tomatoes.

More garden area…. the whole back half of his backyard is all garden. It really is nice. Maisy really loves running through everything. It is nice because Don’s yard is fenced so I can just let Maisy run free.

After picking tomatoes I headed home to prep for my first day of taking care of a patient at clinicals. This evening I took care of a really nice older man. Although taking care of adults isn’t my calling I really do still love being in a hospital.

Ever since I was in Junior High I have known that I want to be a neonatal nurse. Thanks to my mom, I really have a special love for babies. I understand them so well. At work a few of the nurses call me the baby whisperer. I always wanted to be a nurse because I really want to help people and make a difference in their lives. Eventually I will probably go on to be a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.

One last thing and then it is bed time…..

I am SOOOOOO excited for tomorrow morning. I get the opportunity to take a spin class, meet Dara Torres, and try out and review some cool new headphones that Dara helped design. They are called Fitbuds made by Koss Corporation. Tomorrow is going to be so much fun and I cant wait to tell you all about it.

Meet Maisy

My week so far…. has been….. busy. I worked a lot in the past few days so I haven’t gotten a ton done. I did start me month long ab challenge. I started late, on day 6, but so far it is going well.
